A centrifugal clutch has four shoes, each of mass 0.3 kg. When at rest the radial clearance between the shoes and the clutch drum is 5 mm and the radius to the centre of gravity of the shoes is 195 mm. The shoes are held on retaining springs of stiff ness 8 kN m 1 and the internal diameter of the clutch drum is 500 mm. The coefficient of friction between the shoes and the drum is 0.2. Determine for a rotational speed of 1000 rpm (a) the radial force which each shoe exerts on the drum, (b) the torque transmitted, (c) the power transmitted.
