Question 1. Determine energy and protein needs for the patient. Determine grams of carbohydrate per day and number of carbohydrate choices per meal. Remember the Dietary Guidelines recommend 45-65% of total daily calories comes from carbohydrates. (For example: a 2,000 kcal diet would mean 900-1300 kcals are from carbs, this converts to 225-325 grams per day. For the carbohydrate choices per meal, 15 grams carbohydrate = 1 carb choice. So for the 2,000 kcal diet that would be 15-22 carb choices per day; 4 per meal with 3 left for snacks OR 5 per meal with 7 left for snacks; OR a combination within the parameters that fits the patients goals.)

Question 2. Create two days of a diabetic meal plan for the assigned patient. The plan should detail Breakfast, Lunch, Evening Meal, and a Snack. Include portion sizes and number of carbohydrates for each food. Show the total number of carbohydrates and carb choices at each meal. The total number of carbohydrates per meal added up should be within the range of your estimated grams of daily carbs. Be sure your meal plan includes all food groups and is balanced.

Question 3. Meal Plan would include 3 meals a day including snacks for a period of 2 days.

Question 4. Calculate Daily Values of Nutrients (for proteins (10-35%), carbohydrates (45-65%), and fats (20-35%) are 100%.

Question 5. Carbohydrate intake per day meets requirements or is within/under (NOT over) 15 grams of estimated needs.
