Question: A connecting rod of mass m = 3 x 10-3 kg and centroidal mass moment of inertia ic = 0.432 x 10-4 kg m2 is suspended on a knife edge about the upper inner surface of a wrist-pin bearing, as shown in Fig. When disturbed slightly, the rod was observed to oscillate harmonically with the natural frequency con = 6rad/s Determine the distance h between the support and the mass center C. Hint: the distance h must be smaller than the length of a corresponding simple pendulum of mass m, because the mass of the connecting rod is distributed and that of the pendulum is lumped.
