The speed of the river is 3 miles per hour and the depth is 12 ft. The activity coefficient of the bed is 0.40. The temperature of the used water is 21°C, while that of the river is 18°C. The biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) after 5 days of the used water is 24 mg/l, while that of the river is 1.0 mg/l.

The wastewater does not contain dissolved oxygen, however the river before discharge has a dissolved oxygen concentration equivalent to 90% of the saturated concentration. Show the detailed mass balance. Determine DO, y at the distance that occurs from the point of mixing
