A report on television shows a graph to accompany a story that the percentage of people in your city who vote in state elections has declined substantially over the past few years. As a civic-minded citizen, you are disappointed by the report. Then you notice that the scale on the vertical axis ranges from 36% to 38%. Might this affect your reaction to the story? Explain your reasoning.?

You see a graph where the vertical scale begins with a large number rather than zero. Explain why this should always give you reason to be suspicious.?

For some linear relationships, doubling the independent variable results in doubling the function value. For example, doubling the number of steps in a staircase doubles the height of the staircase. Does this doubling property hold for every linear relationship? If so, explain why. If not, give an example of a linear function for which this property does not hold. Try to determine all linear functions for which this property holds.
