Assessment Task: Asynchronous Presentation
Task Overview
Students will create a 10-minute presentation (10 slides maximum - not including the Cover slide or the reference/source list slides). The narrated presentation/video will discuss the selected issues presented in this assessment. The presentation should include relevant and appropriate images, charts, infographics, links and other visual elements that support your presented narrative.
You are to choose TWO determinants of health from the list provided below:
Education
Employment
Income
Housing
You will choose an Australian Local Government Area (LGA) to focus on for this Course and both assessments - and apply your TWO chosen determinants of health. Your chosen LGA can be where you currently live or a different LGA.
Task Purpose
This task will enable you to demonstrate your knowledge and critical thinking regarding the association between the current health status of the community and the identified determinants of health within the chosen local government area.
Step 1: Select TWO Determinants of health and a LGA
You are to choose TWO determinants of health from the list provided below:
Education
Employment
Income
Housing
You will choose an Australian Local Government Area (LGA) to focus on for this Course and both assessments - and apply your TWO chosen determinants of health. Your chosen LGA can be where you currently live or a different LGA.
Included in your presentation will be:
Your understanding of each determinant as it applies to the overall health of a community.
Health-related information about your Local Government Area (LGA) - as it applies to each of the chosen TWO determinants.
The use of appropriate literature/sources to support your presentation.
Step 2: Research
Research and find appropriate references for the presentation. For more information see the references chapter in this Moodle Book.
Step 3: Plan and Create PowerPoint Slides
Logical slide presentation headings should include:
Introduction: Introduce the community you have chosen and provide some general information about it.
Demographics: Discuss the population size, age distribution, ethnic makeup, income levels, education levels, and any other relevant demographic information.
Geographic Location and Features: Describe the community's geographic location and any important physical features.
History and Culture: Discuss the history of the community, cultural practices, values, traditions, languages spoken, and religious beliefs.
Health and Social Indicators: Present key health and social indicators such as rates of disease, access to healthcare, crime rates, educational attainment, unemployment rates etc.
Key Issues/Challenges: Discuss the TWO main determinants of health issues or challenges that you have chosen from the list given facing the community.
Conclusion/summary: Summarise the main points of your investigation and present overall findings about the community.
Step 4 Review Draft
Students are strongly advised to review their work and may write multiple drafts to perfect the presentation prior to submission. (Drafts may be called upon to authenticate academic work integrity).
When writing your presentation, follow the marking rubric to specifically address the marking criteria. The marking rubric will set out the standard required for each section to be awarded marks.
Step 5: Record Asynchronous Oral Presentation (Video)
This assessment task is an asynchronous oral presentation (video submission). Students will only be able to submit a link to a video recording in the Moodle Assignment Submission portal. To do this, your video recording will need to be uploaded to your My Media Space in Moodle.
Use the suggested slide information in the above section on Creating PowerPoint Slides as a guide to what to discuss on each slide.
The video recording must clearly show both video of you speaking (webcam recording) AND your slides (screen capture recording).
Students must submit using MyMedia.
You can record using Kaltura OR convert a Narrated PowerPoint into an mp4 and upload to MyMedia (note: if you use this approach please ensure a recording of your webcam is visible in the video):
Create Video
Students can use Kaltura Capture (free recording software available to use on a computer for all students) to record their screen and webcam while displaying the PowerPoint Slides and talking through your presentation. Instructions for using Kaltura Capture and then uploading the recording to your My Media Space are available in the "Video Assignments - Instructions for creating and submitting video assignments using Kaltura and my Media V2.5" Moodle Book in the Assessment Section.
OR
Record using Narrated PowerPoint and convert to Video file. Please see "Recording a presentation in PowerPoint for a Video Assignment V2" in the Assessment section for assistance. You will then need to upload the video into your MyMedia Space - see Chapter 3 "Upload a phone or other video" in the "Video Assignments - Instructions for creating and submitting video assignments using Kaltura and my Media V2.5" Moodle Book in the Assessment Section.
Once the video file is uploaded to your My Media Space you will be able to embed the video in the Moodle Assignment Submission folder (see "Video Assignments - Instructions for creating and submitting video assignments using Kaltura and my Media V2.5" Moodle Book in the Assessment Section).
Referencing - APA 7th edition referencing style.
