You are a learning experience designer in your company. Last week you worked on re-designing a one-day "Safe Work Practices" training for a group of production employees. This is a mandatory training that employees are required to complete every year. At the end of the session, the employees get a multiple-choice test and get certified. The ones who fail, have to repeat the training.
You presented your design to the Business Manager. He liked the design; however, he is worried that the group is not motivated to attend the training. Most of them think that they are very experienced and don't see a reason to attend this kind of training. However, they are working in a very high-risk environment and last year, there were three near-miss incidents in their workplace. (a near miss is an incident in which no property was damaged and no personal injury was sustained, but where, given a slight shift in time or position, damage or injury easily could have occurred)
The Business Manager just asked you what should be done to motivate the employees and make this training an effective one. How would you respond? Support your approach and ideas with theories and models we discussed in the class.
