Networking Technologies Assignment - Layer 2 Switch and VLAN Configuration
Part 1 -
Figure 1 (attached) depicts a logical switch network to connect 2x LANs with a switch. LAN A is located at Building 18 in Joondalup Campus, and LAN B is at Building 34. Each LAN has 4 sub networks including Faculty staff, Administration department, HR and Guest networks.
Your task is to design virtual networks using Layer 2 VLAN technology and allocate IP addresses with a subnet mask for each host (PC A - PC H) using IPv4 addressing. Using Table 1, complete the design tasks following the steps below.
Note that there are two (2) things to remember in VLAN design.
(1) Hosts in the same VLAN must have the same VLAN ID, and
(2) Hosts in the same VLAN must be in the same subnet range.
Task 1: Step 1 - Pair hosts and allocate VLAN IDs in the VLAN ID column.
Task 2: Step 2 - Allocate IP addresses to each host in the IP Address column.
Task 3: Step 3 - Complete the Subnet mask column.

Part 2 -
Task 1 - Sub-netting
The VLAN 10 network in Part 1 (which has a network address of 10.0.0.0/8) needs to be subdivided into 4 subnets as the number of students grows. Design subnets for the new requirements using the table below.

Rules:
1. Calculate a subnet mask using the last number of your student ID, as below: X = 8 + (Last digit of your student ID), e.g. ID (19213422) = X + 2 = 10. Thus the network address with this student's net-mask is 10.0.0.0 /10.
2. Select the subnet with the smallest range of network mask to accommodate the number of users for each subnet.
E.g. To accommodate 250 users, a network designer would select network mask (/24), which would provide 254 hosts, rather than (/23), which would allow 510 hosts.
3. Select the lowest IP address for each subnet
4. Procedures of calculation explanations should be shown for each task to support the answer.
Task 2 - Identifying Spare IP Ranges
List all unallocated IP ranges from Task 1 in the table below. These ranges may be used as spares in the future.
