Your group will provide detailed information about the brief solution you introduced in Unit Project Part B. The solution must be linked to innovation and new disruptive technologies that will help the incumbent of your choice to re-emerge in the new market.
As part of your assessment you will have to use Design Thinking Model and discuss in detail how this solution has been proposed. There are five steps in design thinking process, and you will have to explain in detail how you used each step to come up with the proposed solution. The steps of the design thinking process are as follows:
1. Empathy: This is the first step and encompasses the work done to understand the needs and requirements of target audiences for whom you are designing. It involves empathising deeply with target audiences through observations, surveys and interviews and design thinkers spend largest amount of time in this step.
2. Define: This step involves defining the meaningful and actionable problem statement based on your insight from empathy stage.
3. Ideate: This step facilitates the transition from identifying problems to collaboratively creating solutions for users. Techniques for ideation include brainstorming, mind-mapping and sketching. As part of your assessment, you will have to create a mind map to show the possible solutions.
4. Prototype: A prototype provides an opportunity to have a direct conversation with the target audiences and gain their feedback. It can be anything that a use can interact with, for example a gadget, role-playing activity or a storyboard.
5. Test: After collating initial feedback about prototype, design thinkers will create a superior version by refining the prototype or solution through repeatedly and rapidly evaluation of prototype by users.
In addition to using design thinking process to discuss the solution, the students have to complete the following tasks.
• Discuss innovative and technological components of this solution.
• Discuss whether this solution is a sustaining or disruptive innovation
• Provide ways to measure the effectiveness of this solution
• Identify potential difficulties that might be expected such as legal problems, support, R&D costs etc.
Part B: Oral Presentation
The group will have to present the overall outcome of the project. The presentation will be of 15 minutes. Each member of the group will have to participate in the presentation.
