Question:

Figure shows a reinforced concrete column which is supported over a pin support at end "A" and roller support at end "13". "N" load is eccentrically applied to the column as shown. In the Ultimate Limit State (ULS), "N" load is equal to 1400 kN (NE4) and in Serviceability Limit State (SLS) with quasi-permanent combination, "N" load is equal to 750 kN (NL). The column has a cross section of 350 nun x 350 mm. The following material data are also given;

Concrete class: B30
Exposure class XC1
Steel class: B500NC
Creep co-efficient φ (∞, to): 2.5

a) Explain with necessary calculations whether you need to consider 2nd ordcr effect or not in designing of column AB.

b) Design the column to withstand the uniaxial bending moment and the axial force. Usc longitudinal bar size: 25 mm and stirrup size: 10 mm.
