Assignment: Design a footbridge to 2 buildings, spanning 16m, with a width of 2m. The footbridge need not be covered. Materials used should preferably be metals. The project includes designing the bridge, choosing the appropriate material, shape, and elements, calculating stresses on the bridge, and adjusting the design based on results. Loads include a capacity of 50 average people (70 kg each), sustained winds of 252 km/h (category 5 hurricane). Use a finite element code of your choice to model your design, calculate the stresses and adjust the design accordingly.
PART 1: Written Proposal: Your proposal should include objectives of the project, description of the problem, what you are planning on doing to solve it, the tools required for completion. Make sure you include the programming language or software you will be using.
PART 2: The project solution including the 3D designed bridge, the programing code used and the software used to design the bridge like CATIA V5 or any other.
