Project - Design of a thermo-fluid flow system for petroleum refinery process

There are four main part of this Project as shown below-

PART 1: Pumps (feed pump P-101, products pumps P-102, P-103, P-104) and pipeline design for both feed and finish products. In this part, the following criteria should be considered and addressed-

1. Complete schematic drawing showing relevant components (use CAD/drafting software)
2. Fittings ∑KL values Tables for both plant feed and products pipeline
3. Pipe material, diameter (I/O), busting pressure, friction factor (f)
4. System equation (static head, dynamic head, and head loss) for P-101
5. Duty point (DP) for feed pump P-101
6. Pump characteristics at DP (head, power, efficiency, specific speed, etc.)
7. Draw velocity triangles for inlet and outlet of the pump impeller
8. Calculate theoretical head (H), power and compare with DP values
9. Cavitation check (NPSHA) for feed pump P-101
10. Apply similarity laws for product pumps design P-102, P-103, P-104
11. Analyse CH, CP vs CQ at a fixed speed for P-102, P-103, P-104 separately
12. Cavitation check (NPSHA) for all product pumps
13. Calculate total power cost per day for running all pumps (show in Table)

PART 2: Heat exchanger networking (HEN) design for feed pre-heating and product cooling of the petroleum process. The following points must be addressed.
1. Brief literature study on HEN system and basic design assumptions
2. Schematics diagram showing the fluid flow for complete HEN system
3. Find friction factor (f) and pressure losses into the HEN system
4. Calculate the total amount of heat transfer and energy saving for preheat

PART 3: Energy management strategies (for short, medium and long term). The criteria are as follows-
1. Energy management strategy for short, medium and long term
2. Propose a new strategy for efficient energy management
3. Justification of your proposed strategy (compare with existing)

PART 4: Health and safety practices required for the safe operation of the petroleum process
1. Safety procedures for petroleum process operation and maintenance
2. Storage and handling (obstacles and dangerous site) of flammable liquid
3. Safety colour codes and applicable control measures
