Use the continuity of volume and mass flow for an incompressible fluid to determine the design characteristics of a gradually tapering pipe.

A pipe contains oil which has a density of 890kgm¯³. Its velocity is 12ms¯¹ at point 2 in the pipe.

Calculate the following:

The volume flow rate, the mass flow rate, and the flow velocities at points

1 and 3. See below for diameters.

The diameters of the pipe are:

(1) 100cm

(2) 70cm

(3) 290cm
