Question: Focus on program design, such as how to select, match and adapt games and activities based on client ages and needs. The submission for part 1 is a complete written session 

The purpose of this assignment is to design and facilitate activity-based programming for children/youth to intentionally meet a variety of client needs. Facilitation will take place in the Gym Lab, and will run on a sign-up basis.

  1. Title Page: This will be a standard title page containing the following information.
  • Title of assignment
  • Student names
  • Student numbers
  • Submission Date
  • Class code
  • Instructor name
  1. Program Overview: This will be a written paragraph that discusses key pieces of information about your programming.
  • The target age group
  • Size of the group
  • Anticipated client needs (mental health, cognitive, physical, allergies, etc)
  • The overall therapeutic intent, purpose, or goal of the program
  • The purpose of your activity choices, (why they were selected, what you hope the outcomes to be).
  1. Activities: Please include 3 activities written in the attached activity format (it will end up being 3 separate pages). Students in a partnership may divide up the activities or work on them together. Either way, both students will retain the same grading.

This is a written assignment and will be graded using the Individual Session - Program Rubric.

When designing your session, here are some things to consider and decide.

    • Late childhood 10-12 years,
    • Early adolescence 13-15 years,
    • Late adolescence 16-19 years.
  • Group size
    • Small (under 8 people)
    • Medium (8-15 people)
    • Large (over 15 people)
  • Known client needs
    • Mental health
    • Cognitive abilities
    • Physical impairments
    • Allergies
  • Therapeutic focus or purpose
    • What is the goal of your interventions???
    • Reduce stress
    • Increase communication
    • Learning coping strategies
    • Practice problem-solving
    • Vent anger and other energy
    • Large muscle movement
    • Increase confidence
    • Reduce anxiety
    • Make friends

For example, if the programming is designed to enhance socialization, the activity should contain interactive components that get the young people practicing social skills such as eye contact and communication. Taking this one step further, an activity to enhance socialization in kindergarten should look very different than an activity to enhance socialization in college.
