Assignment Task

You are to act as consultants hired by the company the case study is based on, to create an information system for your client.

Section A: In response to the case study provided, your will produce a report explaining the information system plan you develop for your client. The report should be no more than 2000 words.

Section B: You will present your ideas to the class (face-to-face students) or submit a video presentation (online students).

Section A Individual report

Q1. Fibre Fashion - Case Study
To complete this assessment task you are required to design an information system for Fibre Fashion to assist with their business. You have discussed Porter's Value Chain in class and you should understand the Primary and support activities within businesses. For this assessment you need to concentrate on Marketing and Sales only.

Q2. Watch the case study video about Fibre Fashion (link below). This video will allow you to understand the business and where you, as consultants, can add value by improving their information systems in marketing and sales.

Q4. For further details about current information systems of Fibre Fashion, please see the Assessment 2 Database document and the OneBrands Fibre Sales Figures Contacts spreadsheet in the Assessment 2 area of Blackboard.

Q5. Based on the information provided as well as your own research (reading!) into information systems for SMEs (small to medium enterprise), write a report for Fibre Fashion to assist with their marketing and sales.

Structure of the report

Please structure the group report as follows:
• Title page
• Introduction
• Background to the issue you plan to solve (e.g. the excel spreadsheet is inefficient). Identify a research question
• Research the issue and present a literature review
• Analysis of the literature including other examples
• Recommended Solution - explain the information system and how it will assist the business. You may use visuals to represent your ideas
• Conclusion
• References (quality and correct method of presentation. You must have a minimum of 15 references
• Appendices should include: research notes

These meeting minutes then need to be attached to the report as an appendix.

Section B Presentation

Your are required to present your final idea for the business in a seven minute presentation pitched as though your lecturer is the client and you are selling the idea of your information system. With an overall maximum of six slides (plus a reference list).

Your selling a solution. Be direct and to the point. APA referencing must align to the guide which I uploaded into the Assessment folder in Blackboard. If you reference a website you will need to follow the APA referencing guide. If you only write the website and no other details it is not an APA reference. There is sufficient material in the modules for you to discuss several options and recommend only one IS solution. The brief gives a guide to the structure of the report but remember you are selling a concept to your client, a new information system that you have researched. This new IS might be a cloud solution or on -premise or a combination of both. It might be an ERP or something else. There are many options but Assessment 2 asks you to recommend only one. Is it SAP, Oracle or something else. You will need to state what it is otherwise the client would not pay you for your service. Remember you are writing your report based on critical analysis in other words, state the options, state why some might not be the best solution then state why your option is the only solution for your client based on your research. Be convincing using your knowledge and professional skills. Your Recommendation paragraph should be very clear, succinct and to the point and not written over one or two pages.

But you should consider how deep you should or should not dive into these issues. Remember that you need to write 2,500 words that represent your understanding of the course materials and recommend one IS solution. The brief simply suggests the Excel spreadsheet is inefficient. You are not required to produce more spreadsheets to fix the old spreadsheets. You are required to recommend an IS solution e.g. a specific ERP or other IS that fixes Fibre's issue that you have identified for Marketing and Sales. The Assessment Brief Learning Outcomes asks you to provide a recommendation including strategic goals. We have covered a range of material regarding strategy (Porter's), enterprise architecture, cloud vs on-site, big data, knowledge management and other relevant content.

I have had many queries on Assessment 2 this past week so I have included some notes below which I hope answers any concerns you may have. 2,500 words +/- 10% 5 minute presentation Presentation can be done with any app such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams or Skype and recorded the same way I conduct our weekly online class sessions with slides and video of you simultaneously. If you are not sure how to download one of these free apps and record, please feel free to ask and I am more than happy to talk you through it. I have attached a template set of power point slides prepared by other lecturers which you may like to use for your presentation which includes some helpful links. Assessment 2 asks you to research and discuss one issue only. There are ofcourse several issues in the video and in the Excel spreadsheets and database records.
