Case: A 54-year old African American, cisgender woman, who is a widow named "Jane" comes to your office. After a brief introduction she tells you she is in a "terrible situation". She had been married to her husband for 26 years. Three years ago he had a heart attack and died a few hours afterward. She went through an appropriate grieving period. The couple has 2 grown children one in college and one in graduate school. Both children are out of the area. Jane tells you she has a supportive extended family, a number of friends, and is connected to her church community. She has a position as an events planner at a local university which is also a positive aspect in her life. Recently she began dating a divorced man who is 55 and is quite fond of him. They have come close to being sexually intimate and she would like to have sex with him but feels "blocked".

She tells you "I can't have sex". When you ask her for more information she tells you that her late husband had his heart attack shortly after the couple made love. She has not been with another man since. While she knows this is not logically, she feels responsible for her husband's death. "It makes no sense but I do not want to kill another one", she says to you part jokingly and part seriously.

Directions: Using the PLISSIT model as your guide design a treatment plan/process recording for Jane. Go through each phase of the model using each letter of the acronym and state what steps and information you would use to help her with her dilemma.
