Cloud Computing and Internet of Things for Smart Applications
Objectives
This assessment item relates to the unit learning outcomes as stated in the unit profile. This is a group assignment.
Enabling objectives
analyse the given business case and identify issues associated with the business;
design a smart application based solution to address the identified issues;
develop and deploy the application in Cloud; and
prepare a report (per the instructions in the assignment specification) to illustrate your activities during the smart application development.
What do you need to do?
The assignment requires you to do the following -
Choose a case study from the given two below and analyse the case study to understand the business problem and required tasks assigned to you to address the issue.
Understand the case study and allocate tasks for each group member.
Design and develop the smart application to execute all required tasks given in your chosen case study.
Finally, prepare a report according to the given format and specifications below and submit it in Moodle.
Report format and specifications -
You must submit a written report in a single Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) document. There is no word limit, but any unnecessary information included in the report may result in reduced marks. The report must contain the following content (feel free to define your sections if you have all the required content):
Cover page/title page and Table of contents
A table (as below) showing tasks completed by each member and reflection of the rest of the members to support his claim. Each member will be marked separately based on their tasks.
Make sure you create a NODERED URL in a cloud platform and share the URL
Login details of the cloud platform and all associated details to run the application.
Introduction
Case study analysis which will report -
Identify four business improvements that your extended modules can address.
Were the data inputs (sensors or otherwise) effective in developing required tasks in the extended modules? Why or why not?
The step-by-step process you have followed to configure and deploy the application. You may use screenshots and notes to enrich your report, but you must have a video of the process of the developments.
Video link of you working while deploying and configuring
Difficulties you faced -
What difficulties have you faced during app deployment and data collection?
How did you address those difficulties?

Choose a Business Case only for the assignment
Business Case One:
A natural language analysis application
Sam Pty. Ltd is an intelligent application development organisation where you are a cloud application development team member. Currently, you are working on a project to create a Natural Language Understanding (NLU) application that takes input from the user's voice to analyse text to extract meta-data from content such as concepts, entities, emotions, relations, sentiment and more. The NLU output data will be used to create a sentiment analysis of the speaker. You must design and develop the following per the customer's requirement.
A web-based smart application to let the user enter their content via voice input.
Translate the voice in the text to pass into a cloud-based Artificial intelligence service like Natural Language Understanding service.
The NLU outputs need to be considered to design an application that will produce sentiment analysis of the speaker.
The analysis result will be shown in debug and emailed to the manager.
Business Case Two:
Smart water management system
Sonic Pty. Ltd is an intelligent application development organisation in which you are a cloud-smart application development team member. You are working on a project to develop a smart environment for environment monitoring. As part of the project, you need to create extended modules below that can be accessed using web based system. You can use the environmental and moisture sensors you used in your week 10 exercise deployed on several CQUniversity campuses.
Create a monitoring system with a dashboard showing line graphs to
show Moisture content, Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) (gasResistance) and Power Consumption (battery) over time.
The monitoring system will report the influence of environmental changes (like temperature) on soil moisture content.
Generate an email report with an average moisture content, IAQ and battery status every hour.
Prepare an email alert for the office administrator if the temperature is lower than 12 ºC and the gas pressure is higher than 1020 hPa.
