Question 1 -

(i) Design an op-amp circuits that provide a voltage gain of +3. Assume sinusoidal input signal with peak voltage of 0.5V and a frequency of 1 kHz. The DC supply VCC = |VEE| = 15V. Approximate all components to the nearest values given in Appendix A and use those values in the simulation.

(a) Briefly explain the operation of the circuit and show all the design calculation.

(b) Show the PSPICE Circuit schematics and show the complete circuit components and value.

(c) Capture the input and output voltage waveforms of your circuit from PSPICE.

Approximate all components to nearest commercial values, use practical values in the simulation and do not use ideal ones.

(ii) Design a summing amplifier that performs the following arithmetic operations.

Vo = -(2V1 + 3V2 + V3)

Assume sinusoidal input signal with peak voltage of: V1 = 3V, V2 = 1V, V3 = 2V and a frequency of 1 kHz. Assume the DC supply VCC = |VEE| = 15V.

(a) Explain the operation of the circuit and show all the design calculation.

(b) Show the PSPICE Circuit schematics and show the complete circuit components and value.

(c) Capture the input and output voltage waveforms of your circuit from PSPICE.

Approximate all components to nearest commercial values, use practical values in the simulation and do not use ideal ones.

(iii) Design a difference amplifier that performs the following arithmetic operations.

Vo = V2 - V1

Assume sinusoidal input signal with peak-to-peak voltage of: V1 = 6V, V2 = 2V and a frequency of 1 kHz.

Question 2 -

Voltage regulator circuit design - Design a series pass-transistor regulator as shown in Figure D2 (attached), which produces a constant regulated output voltage of 5V. The voltage from an unregulated power supply may vary from 8V to 12V. A slow sinusoidal waveform can be used to simulate the unregulated power supply. The required maximum load current is 400 mA.

(a) Briefly explain the operation of the regulator circuit.

(b) Calculate the required Zener voltage, Vz and the resistance, R and load resistance, RL. Choose power transistor with hFE = 40, and Zener test current, IZT = 20mA. Assume average VS of 10V for these calculations.

(c) Simulate the design with full load using PSPICE. Shows all the DC values at the circuit schematic with components values.

(d) Shows the input and output voltage waveforms (unregulated and regulated voltages) of your circuit and compare it with the expected results.

(e) Simulate and determine the line regulation (at full load) with variation on VS. Simulate and determine the load regulation (Note: no load may simulate using load resistance of 10MΩ).

Note: Approximate all components to the nearest values given in Appendix A (attached) and use those values in the simulation.
