Project Assignment

Design a microstrip based rectangular patch antenna resonating at 10 GHz. The substrate used for design is RT/Duroid 6010 with dielectric constant at 10.3, h=254um, metal layer (copper) is 17um.

1. Determine the length and width of the antenna using Matlab Script;

2. Determine the input impedance using Matlab Script;

3. Determine the position of the inset feed point where the input impedance is 50 ohms;

4. Simulate the proposed antenna with the dimension calculated in Step.(3) using ADS.  Key spec: at 10 GHz, the S11 should be less than -12 dB. 

5. Plot and show the antenna parameters (directivity, gain, radiation efficiency etc.). Key spec: Directivity > 6 dBi, Gain > 5dB.

6. Export the antenna into a touchstone file;

7. Import the touchstone file into a new schematic and optimize the feeding circuit. The optimized antenna system should of a S11 less than -40 dB.
