Question: The process in Figure involves the chemical reaction with the over all stoichiometry of 3A + B → C taking place in a packed-bed reactor. The inlet temperature has a strong effect on the rate of reaction, and there is no limit to any reasonable value for the bed temperature. The unreacted A is separated in a flash drum and sent to fuel at considerable cost because it cannot be recycled. Also, high temperatures tend to degrade the catalyst. The liquid product has a target of 80% product C. Design a control system to achieve the objectives just described, specify sensors, and sketch the design on the drawing.
