Assessment - Report
This assessment is for these students only: Gold Coast; Melbourne - Hotel School; Online; Sydney - Hotel School.
Organise yourself in a group of two or three students. Your group is to consider itself an environmental auditing consultancy. Give yourself an appropriate business name.
The Report is in two parts.
Part 1 -
Design a comprehensive environmental audit tool (checklist) that could be used to undertake an environmental audit of one of the following businesses:
- Dreamworld or MovieWorld Theme Park, Gold Coast
- Taronga Zoo, Sydney, or Melbourne Zoo, Melbourne
- Sydney Opera House
- Marion Hotel, Sydney or Melbourne
- Byron Resort at Byron
- El Questro Station Resort, Kimberleys, WA
Your group will need to select one of the businesses and 'get to know it' through its website, any YouTube videos that might exist, Facebook page and other sources. You do not need to physically visit the business. You need to understand what the business does, get a sense of the various components of the services it provides, and the way in which the business is structured (including, if possible, the different functional divisions). All of this information will be needed as context for the development of the environmental audit instrument.
You then need to design a comprehensive environmental audit tool (i.e. a checklist) that could be used as the basis for conducting an environmental audit for that business. The audit checklist needs to be designed for the specific business that you have selected. The checklist MUST contain an evaluative component - it must be able to be used to evaluate the performance of each of the criteria within the checklist.
Part 2 -
Write a 2000-word rationale that explains why your group has designed the audit in the way that you have. The rationale should include discussion of the relevant literature that you used to inform your audit's design as well as highlighting the specific aspects of the business that you selected to design the audit checklist for.
Use of the textbook, the relevant readings, the topic notes as well as searching the Internet, via Google and also Google Scholar, as well as YouTube, in order to develop your audit checklist.
Note - Total 4000 words (2000 words for the environmental audit + 2000 words for the rationale).
