Descriptive Statistical Processes

Descriptive statistics processes are used in describing the basic features of that data in a research or study. These processes normally provide simplified summaries of the samples and measures of the specific research or study. They are used together with simple graphics analysis and hence form the basis of everything in the quantitative analysis of the data.

Some of the common descriptive statistics include mean, mode, median, range, standard deviation and coefficient of variation (Newberry, et al 1994). This paper examines whether descriptive statistical processes can be used in the determination of relationships, differences or effects of my research question as well as the testable null hypothesis.

I agree that descriptive statistical processes can indeed be used in determining relationships, differences or the effects of my research question and the null hypothesis. This is because descriptive statistics can be used in the presentation of quantitative descriptions in a form that can be managed.

In this research study, there are many measures as well as a large number of people that need to be studied in this case the counselors working in the correctional setting. The descriptive statistics can be used in the simplification of the large amounts of data in a way that is sensible. This means that the descriptive statistics helps in the reduction of a lot of data hence making it a simple summary.

Descriptive statistics is of great value for the forensic psychology research problem that I have identified in the course. This is because it helps in making it easy to deal with the data that has been collected when it comes to the analysis. The descriptive statistics makes it possible to carry out an analysis of the issues the different counselors working in the correctional setting all over the world face. The descriptive data can be used as a representation of the large population of counselors working in correctional setting in the whole world.
