While much of the written work that we do as social workers lives within very strict boundaries, there is room for imagination. Think about using your own or others' experiences to format a "found poem." a found poem from a person's written testimony can be a way to pay respectful attention to and honor his or her experiences. (In this context, we use the word "testimony" to describe someone telling their own story. This can also be a way to express through your own experiences in a meaningful way. A "found poem" is one that is formatted using only words that have been copied and rearranged from another text.

4. Once you choose a source consider these steps:

Read the testimonies
While reading the testimonies one additional time, copy words or phrases from it that you find memorable or powerful.
Arrange the words and phrases you have selected into a poem. Arrange the word in a way that capture what you think is the essence of the testimony as well as your experience of hearing it.
When you are satisfied with your poem, give it a title.
