Assignment:
As mentioned in class, a literature review is a critical but objective evaluation of the published literature relevant to your research topic. The literature review provides indicate what is already known about the research topic and identifies the research gaps (i.e. unknown or underresearched areas) that ought to be addressed in your research. Hence, you can use the literature review to justify your research topic.
For this assignment your literature review of at least 4 articles, which should be 3 to 5 pages typed double-spaced, should be organized as follows:
1. Introduction
A brief explanation of the topic and scope of the literature you seek to investigate
A brief description of any general findings of the literature survey (i.e. any common themes in the published literature with respect to their approaches or findings)
Comment on the availability or lack of availability of the literature related to your research topic (e.g. has a lot been written or not been written on the research topic?)
2. Main body
Provide a summary of your evaluation of your sources either in chronological order (i.e. by year of publication beginning with the earliest) or thematically (i.e., according to some common themes in the approaches)
The evaluation criteria for each source include assumptions, methodology and conclusions.
Any inconsistencies, errors and omissions associated with each source could be pointed out.
3. Conclusions
Provide a summary of the key findings in general terms, including general commonalities in what has so far been done or not been done i.e. identify gaps in the literature
Use the identified gaps in the literature to justify your research topic (refer to the PPT slides for potential types of research gaps).
. References
The reference section must provide a complete and correct citation for every source, with appropriate indication of each source in the main body of the literature review.
