You are an office chief at Acme Productions, a large company. You supervise the managers of four divisions. One of the division chiefs, Joe Albright, has been exceptionally good as a manager (as the chief of the IT Division) and your boss has approved your recommendation to promote him and transfer him to the Office of Research, where he will assume new duties as the Deputy Chief of Research.
However, your supervisor has told you that you will NOT get a replacement as the company needs to save salary money. You propose, and the boss accepts, your suggestion that the personnel in IT be absorbed in the remaining three divisions to work with Sally Maness (Chief of Operations), Don Meyers (Chief of Sales), and Mary Oswego (Chief of Production). You plan to interview each member of the IT team and make certain that the new assignment benefits EACH employee, while giving each of the three divisions their own personal IT staff.
Compose an internal memo to the division personnel describing this change in organization. Remember that it is NOT your priorities or agenda that will be important to your staff, and thus they will be aware of multiple problems that are not issues for you. Identify those problems and craft your memo to address their concerns in priority order, remembering that even the Subject line and first sentence of such a memo is critically important. This derails the "homeostasis" of the organization and could quickly have a significantly adverse effect on morale and thus on production if you mishandle this message.
