Question: Mr. M is a 17-year-old man in good health until 1 week ago when he noted that the left side of his chest was painful. One day before his visit, he noticed a rash on the left side of his chest, lateral to his sternum. He describes the rash as small bumps, blisters, and red patches. He says that the skin is extremely sensitive to light touch. He otherwise feels well, without fever or constitutional symptoms. The patient reports no significant medical history. He recently finished a course of amoxicillin for pharyngitis. He also frequently helps his mother garden. The patient is afebrile with normal vital signs. The physical exam demonstrates clusters of small vesicles filled with clear fluid and overlying erythematous skin. There is no lymphadenopathy. The rest of the skin exam is unremarkable.
