Reading and Resources
In Chapter 4 of the textbook, you will learn about the functions of research designs. This chapter describes causal and correlational designs. You will also learn about the strengths and limitations of these designs. You will read about internal and external validity.
Read Chapter 4: "Choosing a Research Design"
In Chapter 5 of the textbook, you will learn how to make systematic observations. This chapter describes ways of choosing variables for a study. You will also learn about factors to consider when choosing a measure. You will read about methods for detecting and addressing problems in a study.

Psychologists structure their research studies to ensure their findings are accurate, reliable, and generalizable to their population of interest. In this discussion, you will examine factors that affect the internal and external validity of a research study. You will choose one factor to apply to a real world example.
Be sure to address the following in your main post: Describe internal and external validity. Why is it important to minimize threats to internal and external validity? Choose one or two threats to internal validity and describe it thoroughly. Provide an example of how that threat may become relevant in a research study within your specialization.
Describe one or more strategies you could apply to minimize the threat. Choose one threat to external validity and describe it thoroughly.
