Brainstorm
Let's brainstorm examples of ethical dilemmas that can arise in how we use theories, perspectives, and approaches in our assessment of and work with various populations.
For example, you may work in a setting that greatly relies upon a "medical model" approach to diagnosing/helping clients, and yet there are some populations (refugees from other countries, highly religious populations, people who prefer cultural healing methods outside of Western medicine) for whom such an approach is unfamiliar and/or is not going to meet their own preferences for treatment. This results can create tensions between "client self-determination," "competence," and "commitment to employers."
1. Regarding the Case Study (1 - Consuela or 2 - Jeremiah) that you choose for the final, think about and research some examples of the ethical dilemmas that could arise in using theories, perspectives, and approaches for your client assessment.
2. Post to the 5.2 Ethical Dilemmas Brainstorm discussion board.
