Learning Activity: Implicit Gender Bias

A Google search of gender bias will reveal an endless number of articles, research papers, statements, and so on related to the ongoing gender biases that occur in both educational institutions and in the workplace. While this course is focused on adult education, gender bias exists everywhere.

The goal of this learning activity is to help you consider gender biases, particularly the ones that are implicit-meaning you likely don't know even know you have them.

Identifying gender bias or potential gender bias is an important part of both preventing and addressing gender bias when you facilitate learning. This activity should also be helpful as you work on your second assignment, Case Study on Gender Issues.

Question 1. Create a one-page paper that identifies and describes a minimum of two types of gender biases.

Question 2. Identify one that you have witnessed or experienced.

Question 3. Explain how such bias may affect learning and academic performance.

Format your assignment according to the following formatting requirements:

Typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides.

Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student's name, the professor's name, the course title, and the date. The cover page is not included in the required page length.
