For the Week 1 Assignment you are going to write a reflection paper in two parts. Answer the following in Part 1 of your paper:

1. Describe your personal view on algebra being a requirement for your degree program. How do you feel about being forced to take math?

2. Mathematics is part of the liberal arts curriculum, as well as the curriculum for any STEM field. Describe what you think of when you hear the phrase liberal arts. What about STEM?

3. Describe what you think the purpose of higher education is. For the second part, start by reading the following article, Why is Math Required in College? written by Jon Davidson, Professor of Mathematics at Southern State Community College. 

Answer the following in Part 2 of your paper:

1. Does the article change your view about your mathematics requirement or why you are getting your degree? Be sure to fully explain your answers!

2. Share any additional thoughts on the article. In your paper, include your name, the course name and section, and the date in the header. Use Times New Roman, size 12 font and double space.
