PROMPT: Visit a museum and select a work of art. This must be something unfamiliar to you. (For all PEX reports you will visit and select original, authentic artifacts.)

Collect information from deep, continuous observation and describe your artifact in detail in an essay titled by the identification of the artifact.

(In future PEX reports, we'll also focus on extending your report to include sections of context and analysis.) Every PEX report will have a final section entitled "Sources." For PEX #1, research and list four quality sources in an accepted bibliographical format.

length: 2 to 3 pages.

Title: Artist, Medium, Date, Size, Museum.

This section of your PEX report is all about deep looking and direct experience, not research, not context, not analysis. Recommended format/length: more than one paragraph; more than one page, double spaced.

Sources: A list of at least four substantial, relevant and reliable sources that provide the basis for discussions of context and analysis: books, encyclopedias (hard copy and/or online), scholarly articles, exhibition catalogs, robust museum websites, etc. (Wikipedia, tourism websites, many news stories and most online dictionaries and are not considered substantial or reliable..)
