In this unit, you are looking at different theories that attempt to explain human personality, as well as what goes wrong with people that can interfere with their functioning.
All of these theories have strongly impacted the field of psychology, but they are not without their limitations. you will further examine a theory of your choosing and use it to help explain why a psychological disorder could occur with a person.
• After reading about the different personality theories (psychodynamic, humanistic, social-cognitive), choose one that most interests you.
• Describe what you like about the theory.
• Discuss any weaknesses in this theory.
• Choose a psychological disorder from your readings. Explain the symptoms of this disorder. Then use the personality theory you chose to help understand what might make a person develop the disorder that you chose.

In your reading this week, you learned about several different theories and techniques used to help people struggling with psychological disorders.
Complaints of depression and anxiety are very common among adults seeking help these days (Dunlop, Scheinberg, & Dunlop, 2013). Use the knowledge you have gained in this unit to consider ways that these therapies can be used to help people.
