Dan, a Harvard Law graduate and Assistant DA of NYC was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. Prior to his diagnosis, Dan's diet was poor and he did not exercise. His lifestyle choices were mostly unhealthy and when his doctor diagnosed diabetes, he recommended that Dan make some big lifestyle changes. The doctor recommended that he change his diet, begin a consistent exercise program, lose excess weight, reduce stress, and increase sleep.
Dan, accustomed to his lifestyle, ignored his doctor's recommendations. Upon follow-up visits, the doctor informed him that his diabetes had worsened and he needed medication plus insulin injections and it is imperative for him to change his lifestyle as previously recommended. Dan took his medication but refused to make the necessary lifestyle changes.
Over time, he developed kidney disease and needed a kidney transplant. Also, due to poor blood circulation, both his legs were amputated at the knees and he lost vision in both eyes. This once prominent Assistant DA, was now blind and confined to a wheelchair. His condition continually declined until he suffered a fatal heart attack at the age of 63 years.
