Select an organization of your choosing (bank, school, restaurant, medical facility, manufacturing facility, etc.). You should visit the organization if at all possible. Read all of the following exercise components prior to your final selection of the type of organization. Complete the exercise as a Word document and attach to the discussion. You may view others' completed exercises. This will permit you to compare your exercise with theirs. The purpose is to determine where you can make improvements. However, you should not simply copy their exercise. The exercise pertains to your selected organization and the application of course contents to that organization.
1. Describe the value-added activities that are associated with this organization in terms of: A. How do they transform the product or service? B. Why is the organizations customers willing to pay for it with money, time, or other resources? C. What is being done to ensure that they proceed correctly the first time?

5. Provide examples of the following that demonstrate the concept of flow in the organization: A. One piece flow – one unit at a time rather than a number of units at one time (batch processing) B. Equipment - agile and flexible C. Equipment - able to make changeovers quickly D. Cell technology – Machines of different types and performing different operation are place in a tight sequenced to permit one-piece flow and flexible deployment of human resources. E.; Production - leveled by volume and mix so that employees, equipment and the system are not overstressed.
6. Provide examples of inventory Control (JIT) – material arrives at the workplace at the right time – not too early or late; that are or should be present in the organization: A. Visual management – visual displays are used throughout the facility to inform people about customers, projects, performance and, goals, etc. In addition signals are used to alert people to a problem at a particular location.

11. From the Define phase of DMAIC: A. Write a problem statement for the project charter for an anticipated problem that the organization may experience using the following prioritization criteria: 1.) Describe why the problem is important and not superficial, and why. 2.) Describe how the problem solution would contribute to the attainment of the organization’s goals. 3.). Define the problem clearly using objective measures. B. Develop a process map that would help the team understand the process, which refers to the business and production activities of the organization.
12. Regarding the elements of the measure phase of DMAIC: A. Provide an example of how the validation of data accuracy is accomplished by calibration and gage repeatability and reproducibility studies for the organization. B. Describe how control charts could be used to measure variation and determine process capability for one of the characteristics of a key process in the organization8. The elements of the analysis phase are process analysis, cause investigation, and charter updating.
