Case Study: Veronica George is a 29-year-old Black female with a 2-month history of intermittent mid-epigastric pain. The pain sometimes wakes her up at night and seems to get better after she eats a meal. V.G. informs you her previous doctor told her she had an infection in her stomach 6 months ago. She never followed up and has been taking over-the-counter antacids and histamine receptor antagonists (H2Ras) for 2 weeks without relief. She takes lithium 300mg PO TID for bipolar disorder which is controlled. She is concerned because the pain is continuing. She has no other significant history except that she is a 20-pack-year smoker, and she drinks 5 cups of coffee daily. She eats late at night and goes to bed about 30 minutes after dinner. Her H-pylori blood test was positive for IgM. She is allergic to penicillin. You've decided to use bismuth-based quadruple therapy for his infection.
