The extensive development and growth of the modern state, with its large and powerful bureaucracy and administrative capacity, has been viewed in both negative and positive terms: either as a hindrance to - or support for - democracy, freedom, equality, or even the nation. Relevant viewpoints on the state include socialism, conservatism, welfare liberalism, neoliberalism, and fascism. Addressing at least two (2) political viewpoints addressed this semester, describe the ways the state is viewed as a beneficial and/or harmful force.
