The objective is to apply verbal and non-verbal communication techniques to another country or culture. We learned that here is old adage about an American businessman going to another country for a contract negotiation. The businessman lays out his case, then waits for a response. And waits, and waits, and waits. Thinking he is at risk of losing the contract he sweetens the deal. And waits. And waits. And waits. Eventually the contract is signed. But, the true moral of the story is the American businessman didn't do his due diligence; he didn't realize that silence was a common negotiation tactic in the host country. To avoid falling victim to a similar situation, we have to uncover some of the cultural differences between two countries. As such, needed to read the following articles and then synthesize the verbal and non-verbal cues in Sri Lanka We need to understand the role of communication that expatriates or business owners need in foreign countries.
