Assignment: Health Portfolio Essa
In this section, you will identify and research a Health-related issue that affects children within the chosen grade level. You will then create a lesson plan to be utilized to educate your specified grade level regarding this topic. Follow the steps outlined to design a lesson plan using the Lesson Plan Template [DOWNLOAD] provided that addresses this issue and engages children in activities and discussion of this issue.
Note:
A. The lesson plan is a health lesson, not a physical education activity.
B. For the section labeled state standards, see the resources provided in the week one overview of both California Frameworks and Health Standards
C. Describe the typical physical development in regards to the general or overall health of an average child within this age group (1-2 pages).
1. This information should be taken from textbooks/scholarly articles and based on norms for a child of this age, not personal experiences.
2. Address issues of health and development (typical physical development in height/weight, sexual development - if any, growth spurts, muscle tone, and development, etc.).
D. Identify and provide research for a specific health issue that affects children within the chosen grade level. Describe its impact on a child's health and wellness, as well as how it might impact that child in an educational setting. (2-3 pages)
1. The issue should be specific rather than general. "Type 2 diabetes in a 12- year-old" is more specific than "Health challenges of a 12-year- old"
2. Select an issue that affects a child's overall health and Wellness, rather then a specialized issue like "Blindness in a 6-year-old"
3. The issue can be fairly limited in scope in terms of the general population (1 in 1,000), but do not select an issue that affects children very rarely (1 in 1,000,000).
4. Cite and reference a minimum of 3 academic sources, published within the past 10 years.
E. Design a lesson plan that addresses this health issue. The lesson plan should be based on the students described in part 1 of this project and reflect their learning needs, interests, and cultural backgrounds.
1. The lesson plan should follow the Lesson Plan Template [DOWNLOAD].
