Case: Talon recently transferred back to your branch after relocating for 5 years at a different branch. You both know each other somewhat well because you worked together for 2 years prior. You know his style and you both have some comfort level working with each other. Since he has left you have been promoted to a higher position and thus are technically his superior. One day you receive an email from him about a coworker (Jane) who is on a committee that Talon had recently been recruited onto:
Hey you! How was your birthday weekend? Bet it was lit! I just wanted to tell you about Jane. I'm not sure I can work with her on this project- she is just so Type A. Part of what we are wanting to expand on is being more innovative with our advertising strategies and she insists on not letting things flow organically in our meetings. I don't think she should chair the meetings or the committee. Can you do something about this? Thanks friend! --Talon
You also get an email from Jane:
Good morning Boss. I would like to provide you with minutes from the last meeting. It was challenging to complete all the items on the agenda because we had a teammate bring up multiple ideas during the meeting that was not necessarily on the agenda. This teammate appears to have great new ideas about advertising yet may not be fully invested in the other parts of the project (research and design, costs, staffing, larger marketing strategies, etc.). I have scheduled a meeting with this teammate to further discuss and would like you to be part of this conversation. Please let me know what your availability is like for this coming week. Thank you. Best, Jane
