The two primary risk factors associated with most chronic diseases are unhealthy diets and physical inactivity. Fortunately for us, many chronic illnesses, such as heart disease, stroke, obesity, and diabetes, can be prevented by following two simple guidelines: exercise more, and consume fewer calories.

For this assignment:

1. Select one initiative and fully analyze its origin and components. Examples of initiatives include:

• Healthy People 2020

• Weight-Control Information Network booklets geared toward older adults

• The National Council on Aging's evidence-based health promotion programs

2. Then, describe the success or failure of the initiative and address the following:

• How did it improve the health of older adults?

• Why was it successful or not successful?

• Based on your knowledge from the course materials, develop a strategy to increase participation in this health program by addressing the elements you would add to this program, or the elements that you would remove.
