Question 1: Process analysis can be directive (how to) or explanatory (how does). A directive process will identify the steps it takes to bake cookies, program a phone, paint a room, or any kind of activity that can be broken down in steps. An explanatory process might explain how a vaccine works, how insects feed, how the heart works, or any other examination of a complex process. It's finally here: the opportunity to use the second-person point of view "you" without being penalized! Directive process analysis typically uses "you."

The topic sentence should be the most general sentence. Remember that it serves two purposes: it states the main point of the paragraph, and it limits the paragraph to supporting that main point. Present your topic sentence first. It should be the first sentence that appears in your paragraph.
