M. Night Shyamalan's 2004 movie The Village and Gary Ross' 1998 movie Pleasantville both depict societies where religion reinforces a set of shared communal values and ensure the reproduction of their society over time. The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate understanding of how religions and cultural toolboxes work from a social-theory perspective and compare their depiction of how such processes work. First describe the social structure and culture, and then analyze at length how the culture reinforces the social structure. In the latter part use the concepts Some examples are essentialism, social reproduction, legitimation, socialization, naturalization, internalization, mystification, discrimination, repression, domination, etc. How are they similar and how are they different from each other in imagining how these processes work?
