Assignment:
Adult learners have a variety of learning options available to them. While many of these exist in corporate and higher education settings, an important segment of adult learning opportunities is found in the community. Local organizations, such as libraries, non-profits, community centers, retirement homes, and churches, provide a variety of courses and workshops to promote lifelong learning for adults.
Respond to the following including an in-text citation and scholarly reference, as part of your response:
- Identify one local and one state community-based education government program where you live.
- What adult education services and/or support does each of your selected programs provide?
- To what extent are local, state, national, and/or global governments and agencies supporting adult education in your community?
Adult learning is shaped and influenced by the learner's prior life and work experiences and the situations they encounter. Self-directed learning, transformative learning, and experiential learning are the pillars of adult learning theory because of their foundation on applied and reflective practice based on real-life experiences.
Respond to the following:
- Describe the significance that self-directed learning, transformative learning, and experiential learning have had on the field of adult learning.
- Describe a transformative learning experience that you or someone you know has gone through.
- As an adult educator, how would you integrate one of the stages of Kolb's experiential learning cycle within the design of an instructional or training course?
Explain and provide a rationale to support your responses. Include a minimum of one, scholarly reference as a part of your response as evidence of reading and research in forming your answer.
