Assignment - Evidence-based Recommendations Overview
Assignment Overview - Epidemiologists are required to evaluate existing evidence from study findings in order to take a position on a particular recommendation that exists. You will be required to summarize the positions behind recommendations, weigh the epidemiological evidence, and advocate for a given recommendation using study evidence to support their position. Assume you are employed at an agency and are charged with researching a known public health issue.
Assignment Requirements - This is a multi-part assignment where each part has a separate deadline through the term. Refer to the Calendar for specific dates.

INSTRUCTIONS - ASSIGNMENT REQUIREMENTS
Parts 1, 2, and 3 - 500 word count 2 scholarly resources (minimum), APA formatting, Title page and Reference page.
Part 1 - Public Health Issue Selection
Describe the sides to a known public health issue including: Level of influence/impact (county, state, local or international)
Key proponents (advocacy groups, scientific organizations)
New developments (evolution of each position over time)
Public health significance (morbidity/mortality rates)
Relevance (timeliness)
Part 2 - Summary of Epidemiological Evidence of Recommendations
Review the public health issue in order to prepare a summary of epidemiological evidence underlying each recommendation.
Weigh the pros and cons of each recommendation in terms of: Cost
Socio-cultural issues
Impact of recommendation on patients' well-being, mortality, morbidity, and race
Develop an annotated bibliography of the sources you use to complete the steps above.
In Part 2 - Summary of Epidemiological Evidence of Recommendations - A summary of sides to a known public health issue. An evaluation of evidence using an annotated bibliography (8 sources) to inform your position. Support for the recommendation you are advocating, including:Rationale for your support. An understanding of cultural competence. Understanding of ethical implications of epidemiological evidence.
Part 3 - Evidence-based Advocacy of a Recommendation
Advocate for a position in favor of the one recommendation you deem most appropriate to the public health issue.
Provide justification for your advocacy using evidence from the literature.
Part 4- Reflection and Application
Develop an online presentation that discusses:the influence of cultural and ethical implications of the epidemiological evidence within the recommendation you are advocating and includes support for your response using scholarly resources.
