Assignment:

Contaminants in the environment are often a major concern even when the contamination is on the level of parts per million. Please do research on Biomagnification first. For this discussion you have three parts to answer. Make sure you answer is labelled Part A, Part B, and Part C. DO NOT put all of your answers in one paragraph.

Part A - Describe the process of Biomagnification in detail. Make sure you describe exactly what happens at each trophic level from producers to the highest carnivore. When you discuss each trophic level, you must discuss exactly how the concentration of the toxin changed and keep in mind I am looking for a numerical comparison of the toxin, not a qualitative comparison.

Part B - Why is there such a concern when toxins are released in the environment at such low levels when we know that our own bodies can easily tolerate a contamination at such low levels? I am looking for a numerical answer comparing the amount of toxin on each trophic level.

Part C - Compare and contrast Biomagnification, Bioaccumulation, and Bioconcentration. Make sure you discuss, in detail, the exact differences for each process and make sure you discuss what happens to the levels of toxins when they undergo each process.

Remember your answers for Part A and Part B must be based on biomagnification only. Gives references to your work.
