POLICY BRIEF PAPER

Health policy is discussed every day in papers, journals, and blogs. You must choose a topic from a current health policy issue and write a policy brief on the topic. The purpose of this assignment is to make you think critically about a problem in health policy. Several health policy issues have been debated in Congress or the state legislature over the past few years. Your assignment is to investigate this topic and written-page a page (maximum) analysis of the topic. The policy topic of your choosing may be a subject of a related bill, statute, regulation, or court case related to public health. The purpose is to gain experience examining a complex health policy issue and write a brief outlining the problem and the various policy options for solving the problem.Steps in the assignment:

1) Choosing a topic
Consider the list of topics at the end of this document and choose one or another topic of public health relevance related to the health care system. You can analyze the topic based on a literature review, state or federal legislation, regulation, or judicial review. If at least one policy action was taken previously (bill, law/statute, regulation, or court case) related to your topic of interest, make sure to discuss that process and outcome. Suggested policy topics and rubric are found in Appendix B later in this document.
2) Concept paper (5%)

You will complete a 1-page (single-spaced) or 2-page (double-spaced) concept paper plus a 1- page annotated bibliography for this assignment. Describe the problem from a policy perspective and the implications for public health. The concept paper should include the following:
