JSNA (Joint Strategic Needs Assessment) Introduction
1.Population Description -250 words
•Describe important background information about the selected JSNAs population.
•You can refer to:
-Demographic information which may include age, sex, ethnicity.
-The wider determinants of health.
2.Population Health Needs -250 words
•Describe the population health needs directly related to nutrition using the Public Health Outcomes Framework (PHOF) indicators.
The PHOF indicators and health information can be found here.
•Health needs directly related to nutrition may include prevalence of diseases such as type 2 diabetes mellitus.
3. Critical Evaluation of JSNA and JHWBS / Discuss the JSNA and critically evaluate the JHWBS -800 words
-Does the JSNA identify key priority outcomes, taking into account patient experiences, local needs and preferences, risk assessments, national priorities and other guidance, such as National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidelines?
- Critically appraise the strategies which being are delivered.
- Comment on whether an evaluation of progress been considered?
-Discuss whether the JHWBS meets the population health needs directly related to nutrition
-Identify and write about any potential gaps in the strategy.
-Identify any further evidence from the literature that supports the selected strategy.
-Critically discuss the style of the documents
4.Recommendations and final comments 700 words
•Consider any new health strategies to improve the health status of your population using the evidence base. Refer to published examples from the literature. It is appropriate to use international publications where relevant.
•Identify any potential barriers to the development of a robust and effective JSNA and to the implementation of the JHWBS. Refer to published material.

Nutrition related such as smoking, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, obesity etc, but not mental health or ambulance call rate etc
Using the information gathered from Step 1, describe the populations nutrition related health needs using the Public Health Outcomes Framework (PHOF) indicators.
Step 3) A Joint Health and Well-Being Strategy (JHWS) that aims to address the populations nutrition
related health needs identified in step one above
• Learn from the past. Review your existing JSNA and compare to current JSNA with a view of your population.
• Analyse the current JSNA & JHWS and assess the following:
- The progression of your JSNA,
- the effectiveness of JHWS,
- Its regard and impact on its population,
- What has worked and what hasn't worked,
- What lessons can be or should be learned
