Assignment 1: Discussion-The Role of the Policy Analyst: Multiple Streams Approach
Kingdon's three-streams approach offers guidance on how policy change occurs. The problem, policy, and politics streams provide the context on what is involved in the policy-making process.
For this assignment, you will assume the role of a policy analyst. You need to conduct research on a particular public health disparity and inform policy makers of the problem. Using Kingdon's three-streams approach, you need to suggest a policy option to solve the problem.
Using the module readings, Argosy University online library resources, the Internet, and other resources, research disparities in public health. Then complete the following:
- Identify a public health disparity.
- Write a problem statement to address this specific health disparity.
- Propose a solution for policy makers to solve the problem. You can create a policy, or you may use a current policy as long as it relates to the public health topic you described in your problem statement.
- Describe the politics that may impact the problem. Support your proposed solutions and answers with appropriate references.
Be sure to apply Kingdon's three-streams approach to the solution you propose.
Write your initial response in 200-300 words. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.
Assignment 2: The Role of Economics
Teitelbaum and Wilensky (2007) described ways in which the government can intervene to promote equity and efficiency when the market fails. You will apply your knowledge of the various economic principles-such as market failure, supply and demand, or the concept of public goods-described in your textbook to the tasks in this assignment.
Using the module readings, Argosy University online library resources, and the Internet, research these various economic concepts and the ways in which the government can intervene. Then, do the following:
- Identify and describe at least two economic concepts stated by Teitelbaum and Wilensky.
- Apply these economic concepts by demonstrating how the government can intervene to solve the health policy problem you discussed in M2: Assignment 1.
Develop a 6¬-8-slide presentation in PowerPoint format. Apply APA standards to citation of sources. Use the following file naming convention: LastnameFirstInitial_M2_A2.ppt.
