The purpose of the Method section is to describe your proposed study so it can be evaluated in terms of ethical considerations and feasibility.
There are 3 subsections, including Participants, Instruments, and Procedure. Participants The first major section of the Method is Participants, and it has three elements.
In this section, discuss:
1) who would participate in this proposal,
2) an estimate of how many participants would be included, and
3) how the participants would be selected.
First, recall that your research hypothesis specified a population of interest. Your sample is selected to represent that population.
Describe the participants based on the hypothesis-demographic information is appropriate.
Are the participants composed of adults, members of particular social/cultural groups, people specified by a mental health diagnosis, etc.? Next, how many participants are required?
Without getting into the specifics of a power analysis, which are beyond the scope of this course, what is a reasonable sample size for your proposal (Refer to Salkind, 2017, Chapter 4 "How Big is Big")?
You can specify the total sample size (N), which is appropriate in correlational designs, as well as specific group sizes (ns) if you are proposing the study of differences between groups.
Finally, how is your sample recruited? Is it probability sampling or non-probability sampling (refer to Salkind, 2017, Chapter 4)?
You will discuss specific recruitment procedures below in the Procedure section
