Question: You look at your buzzing cell phone and see that Carolyn is calling, a friend from graduate school that you haven't heard from in a while. While catching up on each other's lives, she tells you that she was recently promoted to the Director of Leadership and Organizational Development at SAP. She shares with you that she just received the results of the annual Employee Attitudes and Engagement Survey, and unfortunately, they are relatively disappointing. Specifically, she tells you that employees reported lower satisfaction with their supervisors, lower team and organizational commitment, lower engagement, and lower overall job satisfaction. Although she is distraught, she suddenly remembers your deep understanding of organizational behavior (and specifically your knowledge of leadership theory and practice, individual differences, and motivation theory and practice).

You know that she is in dire need of practical solutions based on theory that may help her begin to solve these human capital management issues.Based on your knowledge of factors that impact commitment, engagement, and satisfaction, you recognize that you need to really understand the inner workings of SAP as an organization (both on macro and micro levels). Due to time constraints, you can only ask her three questions and realize that each question you choose to ask must yield the most amount of relevant and important information.
